Not just selling aquariums in Milan, but setting up real aquatic ecosystems
One way to be close to nature and marine animals while relaxing is to have a tropical aquarium with fish at home. Once upon a time there was the habit of choosing between the green of the plants of the tropical freshwater ecosystem and the white of the corals broken by the dazzling colors of the Caribbean marine fish. Today Animal House Milano , the main fish shop remaining in Milan , offers a vast assortment of freshwater fish that can be reproduced in captivity to protect the sale of tropical fish and reef corals that are decreasing more and more due to global warming and of the destruction resulting from fishing, both destructive factors by man.
A nice and easy way to educate children to take care of an animal is to take advantage of the sale of goldfish to give the bowl and be followed by us in the baptism of the first aquarium with the adoption not of a single fish but of a freshwater aquarium as a real aquatic ecosystem .
Fish available at our stores:
Goldfish, Golden Crucian
It is often said that goldfish have a memory limited to a few seconds (and this assumption should, reasonably, extend to the vast majority of fish, as well as to other cold-blooded vertebrates, given the anatomical and functional similarities of their nervous systems). In reality, these fish associate stimuli and maintain learned responses for a long time. For example, they can be trained to perform simple tasks, such as eating only in one area of their aquarium.
The way fish of the same varieties group together when swimming together suggests that goldfish of this species are somehow aware of their own color or shape.
Oranda goldfish
The most evident characteristic that unites the Orandas is the double tail and the short and round body, some breeds develop fleshy growths on the head, called wen, which can take on very different sizes and shapes and which develop as the fish grows.
The most well-known and commercialized Orandas in aquarium shops in Milan are the Red Cap (the photo represents a specimen of this species) completely white in the body and a fiery red wen, or the Lion's Head which are normally completely red and often have a wen very developed.
Lion head fish
This goldfish breed is fatter with a brain growth on the head. This brain growth begins to develop when the fish are around the age of 4 months. Growth should be fully developed when the oranda is around the age of 2. Although some lion heads take longer to develop. This growth is also called a "hood". The lion's head fish isn't the only goldfish breed that has this cap. The Ranchu and the “Red cap” also develop a hood. Sometimes their eyes are hard to see if the hoods get too big. You can find this fish in our tropical fish shop in Milan .
Black Moor
The Black Moor has a body shape that resembles an egg, with a short, stocky body and large eyes that protrude from either side of the head. It is metallic black in color with long flowing fins. There are several varieties, to differentiate the shape of the tail. There are veil, ribbon and butterfly tails all available in our fish shop in Milan . In the aquarium they can grow up to about 10 cm, and their life expectancy is between 10 and 15 years with proper care. Even some hobbyists have reported that they managed to make them live 20 years inside a pond.
Black moors are aquarium fish much loved by children, it is possible to have them through the sale of fish in Milan .
Carpe Koy
Very similar to the goldfish, which tends to be smaller and has a great variety of different body shapes and fins, the Koi instead has a precise body shape, but a great variety of colors.
It presents itself as a tapered fish, with strong fins, with large gills and the typical barbels, or whiskers, which in addition to fulfilling the task of tactile organs, also have excellent taste organs.
The different varieties of Koi carp are distinguished by color, decoration and quality of the scales.
Although the various combinations of colors are infinite, scholars have identified the summary categories of classification.
You can find koy carp in our Milan aquarium store.
Guppy
They are the "beginner fish" par excellence, not only for their iridescent color, for their splendid draped tail, for their lively behavior, but also because they are among the easiest fish to reproduce, they do everything by themselves without taking any care ( indeed, the problem is to make them stop! :-) and thus they give the first joys and satisfactions to new aquarists ... how can we forget the thrill of finding the first, tiny, defenseless, tender fry of guppies among the floating plants?
At Animalhousemilano fish shop in Milan you can find a vast assortment of lebistes of every color.
Platy
Xiphophorus maculatus , better known as platy , is one of the most common fish raised in aquariums and is often recommended for beginners who try their first freshwater aquarium. The platy is in fact very easy to breed, it has very few demands in terms of space, it is extremely adaptable, it repays the observer with wonderful liveries and very interesting behaviors to observe.
Plati are available in our tropical fish department in Milan.
Molly
Molly fish belong to the Poecilidae family, with currently 40 recognized species. Among the most famous we can mention the Poecilia sphenops, the velifera and the latipinna. Since 1899, the year in which it was introduced into the aquarium hobby , this fish has been a permanent presence in the tanks of many, especially neophytes.
They are very beautiful and popular fish in freshwater aquariums in Milan .
Serpae
The body is typically rhomboid, with convex and cuspid ventral and dorsal profiles. The dorsal fin is high, the anal long, the strongly bilobed tail. The livery is rather variable for geographical areas and in each individual: the background color varies from orange-red to a dark red, paler on the head and belly. After the gill operculum there is an elongated black spot. The dorsal fin has a red root and black body and is also edged with white, while the anal fin is red edged with black and sometimes with white. The other fins are red; sometimes the caudal fin is edged with black. In captivity, forms of breeding with veil fins have been developed.
In our aquarium shop in Milan you will also find many aquarium accessories that will allow you to breed tropical fish in your tanks.
Saint filomenae
Behavior and Compatibility: It is a good choice for community aquariums , where it adds a lot of movement due to its particularly active nature. Precisely for this reason, however, calmer and quieter species such as anabantoids or dwarf cichlids could be intimidated by their liveliness, so it is better to keep them with equally active tank mates.
It can also be used as a reassuring fish for non-aggressive medium-sized cichlids. Although it has a reputation for being a fin-beater, this behavior can usually be non-manifest if a small herd of at least 6-8 specimens is raised, as in large groups the quarrels are generally contained within the group. . As with practically all tetras, they do better in the presence of conspecifics anyway, and tend to be a bit shy and skittish if kept in insufficient numbers.
Brachydanio
it is a peaceful fish that loves company and forms stable pairs. Suitable for group aquariums.
Freshwater aquariums recreate "cold or temperate" or "tropical" habitat conditions. The availability of tropical fish is vast and a community aquarium can be dedicated to them, with species that populate the different levels of the tank. When choosing plants and fish, make sure they have similar needs for water, temperature, lighting and food; moreover, they must have behaviors that ensure a peaceful coexistence.
Carefully evaluate the number of individuals for each species, depending on whether they have gregarious habits or not.
This species is available in our aquarium shop .
Climb
Breeding in the Scalare aquarium does not present particular problems, as long as some of its vital needs are duly taken into consideration. First of all, space. An adult Scalar can easily measure 14-15 cm in length and 20-25 cm in height (up to 40 cm in the "veil fins" specimens); a tank suitable for its breeding should be at least 80 cm long and not less than 40 cm high, in order to prevent our guests from swimming "crawling" with their fins on the bottom material. Scalars much prefer planted aquariums, able to provide safe shelters among the leaves in case of need, but also a large area left free for swimming, with low or even no plants, where they can feed easily.
Neon
The Neon fish has a slender body and does not reach more than one and a half centimeters in length, but despite the mignon size it boasts bright and characteristic colors. It has a silver belly, from the tip of the nose to the adipose fin it is blue - a neon blue that allows it to be visible in the darkest areas - while from the belly to the tail it is red. When the Neon is sick and when he is resting these bright colors fade.
Neo n fish get along quite well with everyone, but obviously it is the case to avoid putting large, territorial or predatory fish in the aquarium: given the size they would risk falling into the trap first and there would be no way out for their.
Cardinals
Cardinal fish populates, in numerous schools, the tributaries of two great rivers of South America:
Rio Negro
Orinoco.
The areas where it is most present are characterized by:
weak current,
abundant vegetation on the banks,
seabed rich in foliage, trunks and roots (submerged and semi-submerged)
amber color of the water.
It has also been observed in areas with clear water, greater currents and sandy bottoms.
It is a fish that adapts well to life in large tropical aquariums , it can be bred with other species but only compatible.
Corydoras
Corydoras belong to the Callichthyidae family. They are characterized by a body shape suitable for living on the bottom, and by the presence of more or less developed barbels, with which they "root" on the substratum in search of food. They also have two dorsal bony plates that protect them from any predators, joined to the very hard first ray of the dorsal fin, which can stick into the mouth of the predator who tries to swallow them, killing him in turn.
They are very interesting and pleasant inhabitants of the bottom , even if those who always imagine them resting on the sand of the bottom (sand is necessary because the gravel risks hurting the delicate barbels; it also allows them to assume more natural behaviors) could have especially some surprises.
The corydoras are available in many colors in our aquarium shop in Milan .
Gibbiceps
It is a tropical fish with a flat belly adhering to the substrate, a very wide dorsal fin, with 12/13 rays, with the first as long as the entire head. The pectoral fins look like small fins. Bulging eyes. Downward-facing suction cup. Brown / green brown livery. Body and fins covered with light speckles that make the livery similar to the skin of the Leopard. It is part of the cleaner fish for sale in our tropical fish shop .
Rasbore
Rasbora is a schooling fish, and will be at home in small groups of 8/10 individuals. It is a very peaceful fish and coexists very well with the most famous and present fish of our aquariums such as Black Molly, Swordtail, Neon, Cardinals and Tetra in general. Due to their peaceful and not very curious nature they are very suitable for delicate and rich in details aquariums because, being very quiet, they will not go to nibble, browse or move furnishings.
Rasboras are tropical fish perfect for living with betta splendens , they are always available in our aquarium shop in Milan .
Betta Splendens
Known as " Fighting Fish " or " Siamese Fighting Fish" , Betta splendens is a freshwater fish of the Osphronemidae family which includes 126 species of freshwater fish.
Native to Southeast Asia, it lives in stagnant waters (lakes, rice fields, canals and river areas with weak currents) even where oxygenation is lacking. In fact, as for all fish belonging to the Osphronemidae family, it is able to take oxygen directly from the air thanks to an organ called the labyrinth.
AnimalHouseMilano is the only aquarium shop in Milan to have betta fish of all subspecies. SOURCE
Red Parrot
It has large eyes and deformed fleshy lips, the head is rounded, and a body with a very high dorsal profile and a convex belly. The dorsal and anal fins are long and broad. The tail is developed and delta. The pectoral fins are robust while the ventral ones are pointed. The livery is different from variety to variety, they have been different in addition to the more common orange red and yellow, we also have green, blue and purple.
Being "laboratory created" animals they could present some problems, such as deformity of the back, throat and very frequently, infertility. Despite this, their life expectancy can be up to 10 years if kept well. Although initially shy, they are very sociable with the breeder and interested in events outside the tank, therefore intelligent and their facial conformation also makes them very nice due to the continuous smile they seem to have.
Parrot fish are very docile and sociable in community and non- community aquariums.
Astronotus ocellatus, Oscar fish
The astronotus or oscar fish is certainly a very fascinating tropical fish , albeit with a bad temper. It needs spacious tanks to be raised but gives unique satisfactions. it is famous in aquariology for being a "dog" fish , in fact, unlike other fish, the oscar is sociable and can interact with its owners.
It cannot live with other fish species below 200l and for larger aquariums it adapts well to cohabitation between predators .
Tricogaster Gold
The body is compressed laterally and has an almost rhomboidal shape, with the pointed mouth and slightly turned upwards. The color is a pearly gray dotted with brown spots also pearly with golden and bluish outlines. The sides are crossed by a horizontal line brown that starts from the muzzle, crosses the eye and tapers off in the back while continuing up to the entire tail. Its dimensions reach up to 15 cm.
Tricogaster gold are tropical fish available in our fish shop in Milan .
Barbus
In aquariums, those that are grouped under the term " Barbus ", their old genus, are very widespread as schooling fish , while for some years this genus has undergone several and controversial taxonomic revisions, through which the great genus Barbus has been "thinned out. "separating many species assigned to different genera, already existing or created from scratch. An example is the most famous, aquaristically speaking, the Tiger barb, baro tigre, originally Barbus tetrazona, which we had not yet used to call Puntius tetrazona which had already become Systomus tetrazona, to be today Puntigrus tetrazona.
